What should you know before you plan your studies in Germany?

There are a few important factors you need to know. 

The best is to start searching earlier about the admission requirements, as Germany has a different school leaving certificate, which means you will have to apply for recognition your e.g. A-levels, IB or national diploma to the German ‘’Abitur’’. To do so, there are a few tools you can use to check how and where to apply for your school leaving certificate recognition.

Public universities charge no tuition fees for bachelor’s and master’s programs (only a €150–€400 per semester admin fee). However, Baden-Württemberg charges €1,500per semester for non-EU students, and private universities have tuition fees of €10,000–€20,000/year.

In Germany are two possibilities to apply for your studies, you can apply for courses that start in Winter Semester and Summer Semester. The applications deadlines usually take place for Winter Semester until the 15 July (depends on the university, some might extend) or for Summer Semester until the 15 January (depends on the university).

  1. Find a course through DAAD Program Database 
  2. Verify your qualifications on ANABIN or the university’s website.
  3. Gather certified copies of your diploma, transcripts, language test (TestDaF/IELTS), passport, and motivation letter.
  4. Submit your application directly to the university or via Uni-Assist.
